An estimate, not an announcement
The calculator estimates the chance that schools close or start late, from a public weather forecast and a set of published rules. It is not a school closing announcement and it does not come from any school district.
- Only your school district decides whether school is open. Check its website, calls, texts or local news.
- Do not skip school, skip homework or change travel plans because of a number on this site.
- For weather safety, follow the National Weather Service and your local authorities.
No warranty
The site is provided as it is, free of charge. Forecasts are wrong some of the time, the data source can be unavailable, and the method is a simplification. We make no promise that a result is accurate or that the site is always available, and we accept no liability for decisions made using it, to the extent the law allows.
Data sources
Forecast data comes from the US National Weather Service and town locations from the US Census Bureau. Both are public information from the US government. ZIP code locations come from GeoNames (geonames.org, CC BY 4.0). Forecasts for Canada come from Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com, data under CC BY 4.0), which draws on Environment and Climate Change Canada’s models; Canadian postal code locations also come from GeoNames. This site is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
